In her writing, Lorraine Hansberry drew heavily on her own experiences growing up on the south side of Chicago. In 1959 Hansberry’s first play, "A Raisin in the Sun," won the Best Play Award from the New York Drama Critic’s Circle. Only 29 years old at the time, Hansberry was the youngest American, and the first black playwright, to win this prestigious award. This reading is preformed by the actors that played in the original production of the play.
